A big shout out to …
• The wild success of the Interliga games in Houston -- the crowds were larger in Houston than at the other Interliga sites, and on Sunday twice as many folks went to the soccer matches than to the Rockets game! The colorful, friendly fans of all ages had a great time (well, maybe not the Chivas fans) amd even the Reliant Stadium ushers were raving about the experience. Check out the Chronicle's multimedia coverage & poll at
http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/soc/2348609. The eventual winner of the Interliga was Santos Laguna, who defeated Atlas in penalty kicks last week in L.A.

• Texas A&M's Kati Jo Spisak, named one of Soccer America's MVPs for the 2003 season. In her second season in goal, she notched nine shutouts and led the Aggies to the third round of the NCAA tournament. See

• The South Texas players drafted to the MLS last weekend: Nacogdoches' Clint Dempsey was picked in the first round by the New England Revolution, and Houston's Josh Gardner went to the LA Galaxy in the second round.

• US national teamers Abby Wambach & Landon Donovan, who were named US Soccer's Chevy Athletes of the Year for 2003. See
