Say howdy to the Austin Posse
The Austin Posse is a new men's team that will play exhibition matches during 2004 as they pursue professional league affiliation for 2005. The Posse has signed former US World Cup/MLS player Chad Deering and Argentinian star Mauro Carabajal. On April 3, the Posse face Tigres of Mexico's 1st division at 7 pm at House Park Stadium in downtown Austin. Future opponents include Chivas, the Honduras national team and a few MLS teams. US national team news
The US women are in Portgual for the annual Algarve Cup. They beat France 5-1 on Sunday, and Denmark 1-0 on Tuesday. If they beat or tie Sweden today, they make Saturday's championship game (with Norway as the likely opponent). The women open their domestic schedulewith a game against Brazil in Birmingham, Alabama on April 24, followed by a match against Mexico in Albuquerque on May 9.

The US men face Poland in Poland on March 31, then meet Mexico in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas for the next round of the regional grudge match. They'll play a home & away World Cup qualifying series in June (locations TBA), and then meet Poland again at Chicago's Soldier Field on July 11. See details at http://www.ussoccer.com.


MLS visits San Antonio

Update on the WUSA
The “Keep the WUSA Dream Alive” initiative will gauge support for the league as it prepares to return to full operation in 2005. Go to http://www.wusa.com/keepthedreamalive/ to pledge your support. The world’s greatest female soccer players will be featured in two WUSA festivals this summer: June 17-20 in Blaine, MN and June 24-27 in Carson, CA. Tryouts for the Houston Stars
Open tryouts continue for the national women's amateur league Houston team: Friday, 7 pm at Lost Creek Park (Sugar Land), Saturday, 9 am at Bear Creek Park fields 20/21 and Monday, 7:30 pm at Memorial Park. Houston has two teams in the WPSL: the Stars, who will play at a new venue in Richmond, and the Tornados, whose home field is Delmar Stadium. The Stars roster includes former WUSA player Michaella Rooney.

HWSA scholarship program
