Olympic
qualifying update
The US men will not qualify for the Olympics for
the first time since 1976 as Mexico won 4-0 in
Guadalajara Tuesday night. The US was outshot 18-4, and
only forced two saves. Costa Rica advanced to the
Olympics with a 3-0 win over Honduras. For more info, see

Coach April Heinrichs has named the women's roster that
will try for an Olympic berth in the qualifying
tournament in Costa Rica. The US women head Group A,
which also features Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti and
Mexico. Canada heads Group B, which features Jamaica,
Panama and Costa Rica. Top two finishers in each group
"cross over" for the semifinals; semifinal
winners earn Olympic berths.
The US opens on February 25 against Trinidad & Tobago
(3 pm), then face Haiti on February 27 (8 pm) before
finishing first round play against Mexico on February 29
(3 pm). The semifinals will be March 3, final &

STYSA girls take on Mexico
The STYSA 87 girls state team will play the
Mexican women's full national team this Sunday, February
15 at UT's Mike Myers Stadium in Austin. Kickoff is 1 pm,
admission is free. The Mexican team, featuring Houston's
own Monica Gonzalez, will also play the UT varsity team
Friday night at 7 pm.

February 18 international friendlies
Next Wednesday, the US men face Holland (ranked
5th in the world) in Amsterdam; game airs live at 1:30 pm
on ESPN2. The game will feature the debut of USA's new
Nike uniforms. Roster will be announced Thursday on ussoccer.com. Later that evening, Mexico will take on
Chile at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Game airs
live at 10 pm on Telemundo.
