WUSA in Houston on October 19
Mia Hamm & the Washington Freedom take on Briana Scurry & Atlanta Beat Saturday, October 19 at Rice University Track/Soccer Stadium. Pregame fan fest begins at 3 pm, kickoff at 5 pm.

The Rice soccer venue is fairly cozy (5000), so there's a good chance the game will sell out. Get your tickets now. If your soccer club would like purchase a large block of tickets, let me know -- I can bring them to your next meeting or event.

Volunteers are also needed to work the game -- sell Tshirts and programs, help with security, etc. Email keeper@rice.edu.

US women's team on TV
The American women face Australia on Wednesday, Oct. 2 (6:30 pm, espn2) and Italy on Sunday, Oct. 6 (1 pm, espn2) in the 2002 Nike US Women's Cup. They downed Russia 5-1 on Sunday to start the tourney.


U.S. Soccer Coaching Symposium in Houston
U.S. Soccer is offering a unique two-day coaching symposium in Houston on October 18-19 that will include lecture presentations from U.S. Soccer's National Staff Coaches and field sessions covering a wide range of topics specific to the women's game.

The symposium includes classroom sessions on October 18 and field sessions followed by the WUSA Freedom-Beat exhibition match on October 19. In the classroom sessions, U.S. Women's National Staff Coach Dave Simeone will review and discuss the recent FIFA Under-19 Women's World Championship. Simeone's presentation will include video highlights of the group games to analyze systems, styles and trends from the world championship. The field sessions that will take place the following day will reflect the evolving needs of player development in the women's game.

Registration is open to all coaches, and "A" license coaches attending the symposium will earn two units toward the renewal of their license. Cost to pre-register (prior to October 16) for the symposium is $60 for U.S. Soccer Coaching Organization Members and $70 for non-members. Walk-up registration is $70 for members and $80 for non-members. The cost of the symposium includes one ticket to the Freedom-Beat game.
