WUSA
Founders Cup II Saturday on PAX
This
weekend's championship game in Atlanta features two great
teams:
Washington Freedom
Washington beat the Philadelphia Charge last weekend with
a single goal in the 80th minute by Monica Gerardo (Notre
Dame/Mexican national team). Florida standout Abby
Wambach was just named Rookie of the Year -- she scored
10 goals in 19 games this season. And Mia Hamm has
returned from injury with a vengeance, scoring 8 goals in
11 games, playing only the 2nd half of most of those
games.
Carolina Courage, the 2002 regular season champion,
scored a golden goal (courtesy of Carla Overbeck) to top
the Atlanta Beat 2-1 in the 2nd semifinal, after both
teams earned a penalty-kick goal in regulation. Keeper
Kristen Luckenbill earned Goalkeeper of the Year honors
this week. World Cup stars Danielle Fotopoulos and Birgit
Prinz (Germany) lead the Courage in scoring this season.
It's going to be a great match...
